Reviving Dirt Kart Racing in Southern California

The So Cal Dirt Karters Club (SCDK) is a non-profit club that promotes kart racing as a safe, fun, and competitive motorsport in the Southern California area. Our club strives to promote top quality, professionally managed events.  Classes are run under uniform rules that are impartially enforced, providing fair competition and safety for all those involved. We adhere to high standards in our efforts to provide the most competitive racing program possible for everyone. We believe in a family oriented and friendly environment to make our events enjoyable for all who participate.

SCDK SoCal Championship Series Race 4 Cancelled!!

SoCal Dirt Karters Championship Series Race 4 Cancelled.

After reviewing our current pre-registration numbers and the overall financial position of the club, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Round 4 originally scheduled for May 30th.

This was not an easy call. Nobody on the board wants to cancel races, and we know this is disappointing for the racers, families, staff, volunteers, and everyone who supports SCDK. However, with the current low entry numbers the club would potentially take a loss and we are not in a position right now to absorb that.

We have been very open recently about where things stand.

SCDK needs strong participation to continue operating in a stable and sustainable way. Track rental, insurance, race day staff and basic event expenses do not go away when entries are low. The club is run by volunteers, but the cost to put on a race is very real.

Rather than push forward with a race that would put the club in a deeper financial hole, we are going to use this time to regroup, work on unfinished projects, continue building the Arrive & Drive program, and focus our energy on making the next event stronger. Stay tuned for news on some exciting changes.

Our next scheduled race is Round 5 on June 27th.

We need the SCDK community to rally for that one. If you want this club to continue, we need you there. Pre-enter early. Bring your friends and family. Encourage new racers to come out. Talk to potential sponsors. Help spread the word.

This is not us giving up. This is us making a responsible decision so we can come back stronger.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support SoCal Dirt Karters. We appreciate every racer, family member, volunteer, sponsor, and fan who believes in what we are trying to build.

Let’s regroup, reload, and come back strong for Round 5.

SCDK SoCal Championship Series Race 3 Delivers Tight Battles and Dramatic Finishes at Perris

The SoCal Dirt Karters returned to Perris Raceway Flat Track on May 9th for Round 3 of the 2026 SoCal Championship Series, and despite a compact race program, the night delivered close finishes, dramatic DNFs, and some of the tightest racing of the season so far.

RLV Jr / Jr

Parker Drottz continued an impressive night by claiming victory in the Junior division after leading all 20 laps of the feature. Drottz showed excellent pace throughout the main event, turning the fastest lap of the race at 16.174 seconds while steadily stretching his advantage over the field.

Auston Yates stayed consistent to finish second, while Seth Guckeen’s night ended early with a DNF after mechanical trouble sidelined him before the finish. Despite the disappointing result, Guckeen showed major improvement earlier in the evening and was able to run competitively with the leaders during Heat 2, continuing to build confidence and speed as the season progresses.

Small Bore Open / KT100

The Burris Racing/YOA KT100 main event produced arguably the closest and most competitive battle of the night, with the top three drivers separated by less than two seconds after a special extended 25-lap feature, five laps longer than the division’s standard distance.

Scott Bassett controlled the race early, leading from the opening green flag and appearing poised for victory as he paced the field through the first 22 circuits. Behind him, however, Art Laski and Sam Gentry remained within striking distance throughout the feature, waiting for an opportunity in traffic and on restarts.

As the extra laps began to take their toll, the complexion of the race changed dramatically in the closing stages. Laski managed to work past Bassett on lap 23 to take over the lead, and one lap later Gentry also slipped by Bassett, turning the finish into a dramatic two-lap sprint between Laski and Gentry.

Laski ultimately held on for the victory by just .998 seconds over Gentry, while Bassett crossed the line only another .680 seconds behind in third after leading the majority of the event.

Gentry recorded the fastest lap in the class with a 15.316-second circuit, narrowly edging both Laski and Bassett in outright pace.

Charles Beck showed speed early in the evening but was forced out after 13 laps with mechanical issues.

In the ElectroTech Powder Coating/San Diego Small Engine Small Bore Open main, Rodney Argo once again demonstrated why he remains one of the most dominant drivers in the region, taking an uncontested but blisteringly fast victory when Michelle Munoz couldn't make the bell with a blown engine in heat 2.

Argo turned the quickest lap of the entire evening with a 14.539-second lap while averaging nearly 31 mph around the Perris clay oval. Even without direct competition in class, Argo continued using the race as valuable development and setup time while putting on an impressive display for spectators.

A&M Pumps Outlaws

Parker Drottz doubled up on the evening with a second feature win, this time in the ultra-fast 250cc Outlaw division.

Drottz survived heavy pressure from veteran George Wolf to secure the victory by 2.661 seconds after 20 laps. Marty Wolfe completed the podium in third after maintaining a steady pace throughout the feature.

Jacob Chutuk appeared capable of contending for the win early in the race and recorded laps nearly equal to Drottz’s pace, but mechanical issues ended his night after 15 laps while running near the front.

SoCal Mowers

The growing Mower division once again provided some of the most entertaining racing of the evening with a seven-machine field taking the green flag.

Brandon Hubbard captured the victory after an intense race-long duel with Kenny Pfitzer. The two traded momentum repeatedly before Hubbard secured the win by just 1.366 seconds. Britt Griffith remained close throughout the feature and completed the podium only two seconds behind the winner.

Garrett Stearns brought home fourth, while Greg Barnett overcame issues to finish fifth.

The attrition-heavy race also saw Tyler Barnett and Brad Barnett sidelined before the finish.

The SoCal Championship Series now heads toward Race 4 on May 30th as championship battles continue to tighten across multiple divisions.

SoCal Dirt Karters SoCal Championship Series – Race 2

April 25, 2026 – Perris Raceway Flat Track

Round 2 of the SoCal Dirt Karters SoCal Championship Series went forward despite a forecast calling for rain, and racers were rewarded for sticking it out. A brief shower between the first and second heat races added moisture to the Perris Raceway Flat Track surface and changed conditions for the remainder of the evening, but the program continued uninterrupted and produced strong racing across all divisions.

With returning competitors back in action, several first appearances of the season, and one farewell start before an out-of-state move, Race 2 added another layer of momentum to the early championship battle.

Junior Stock

Aiden Gout continued his strong start to the championship season with another victory in Junior Stock, setting the pace throughout the main event. Austin Yates remained within striking distance but ultimately settled for second, while Waylon Gentry completed the podium after another steady run.

Top Three

  1. Aiden Gout
  2. Austin Yates
  3. Waylon Gentry

Senior Clone

Competing in just his second dirt kart race, Charles Bragg scored his first victory with SoCal Dirt Karters in Senior Clone, continuing an impressive early learning curve on the Perris clay. Spencer Morris made his first SCDK start and brought the kart home in second place, giving the class a strong showing from two developing drivers.

Top Three

  1. Charles Bragg
  2. Spencer Morris

Small Bore Open

Rodney Argo remained the driver to beat in Small Bore Open, taking another convincing victory ahead of Jeff Baker and Duane Lawson after controlling the pace throughout the feature. Michelle Munoz completed the race in fourth after a determined effort that saw her lose an engine in Heat 1, miss Heat 2 while making repairs, and return to the track for the main event with a replacement engine.

Top Three

  1. Rodney Argo
  2. Jeff Baker
  3. Duane Lawson

KT-100

The KT-100 class produced one of the closest races of the night.

Returning to competition after winning the final race of the 2025 season, Tyler Rose Bohle picked up right where she left off, taking the win over Gary Long and JJ Ercse in a tightly contested feature. The race marked Ercse’s final appearance with the series before relocating to Idaho, closing out his local run with another podium finish in the Duane Lawson-owned kart.

Sam Gentry finished fourth from the back of the field, while Karl Yokes made his first start of the 2026 season and brought home a fifth-place result. Charles “Chuck” Beck returned after missing Round 1 but was sidelined after ten laps, and Scott Bassett’s night ended early after six laps.

Top Three

  1. Tyler Rose Bohle
  2. Gary Long
  3. JJ Ercse

Outlaw Open

The Outlaw division featured an interesting matchup between Adam Jones in his Outlaw Open kart and Jacob Chutuk competing with the smaller 250cc engine package. Jones led the early laps in the debut outing for his new combination before Chutuk took over the lead on lap 9 and went on to secure the victory. Cash Culp was unable to take the start.

Top Three

  1. Jacob Chutuk
  2. Adam Jones

With two rounds complete in the nine-race SoCal Championship Series, early championship contenders are beginning to emerge while new drivers and returning competitors continue strengthening the fields across multiple divisions as the season progresses.

Pre-tech Safety Form Available for Download

So Cal Dirt Karters is implementing a pre-race safety tech on all karts, starting this Saturday, 3/29.  Once you get unloaded, roll your kart(s), along with safety equipment down through the grid area and our resident safety monitor, Gary Long will check for the basics.

Karts that don’t pass safety tech due to slight infractions will get a “fix it” ticket for our next race.

Egregious safety issues (no chain guards, lead weight held by zip-ties), will need to be an immediate fix.

You can refer to the checklist below for an idea of what will be looked over.

It’s important that everyone complies to safety measures in order to keep racers and fans safe so we can continue growing events at Perris Flat Track

ATTENTION RACERS!!!

Per the insurance restrictions at the Perris Raceway, all MOTORIZED vehicle riders in the pits MUST wear a helmet. This includes quad, motorcycle and mini-bike riders. This is a strict requirement of Perris Flat Track. Please do not violate this mandate and jeopardize our future at this facility.

Also, all long-hair racers need to secure their hair per the rule book in section 4.6.5:

" If hair extends appreciably from beneath helmet, the competitor must wear a balaclava to retain hair from extending outside helmet. No hair is allowed to be visible when the driver is “race ready”.

No exceptions!
