The So Cal Dirt Karters Club (SCDK) is a non-profit club that promotes kart racing as a safe, fun, and competitive motorsport in the Southern California area. Our club strives to promote top quality, professionally managed events. Classes are run under uniform rules that are impartially enforced, providing fair competition and safety for all those involved. We adhere to high standards in our efforts to provide the most competitive racing program possible for everyone. We believe in a family oriented and friendly environment to make our events enjoyable for all who participate.
So Cal Dirt Karters closed out the 2024 season on November 2nd under the threat of rain, but the clouds held out, for the most part. A brief sprinkle was all there was about midway through the program, and the racetrack didn’t mind. The track surface was the best it’s been all year. Absolutely perfect conditions on the Perris Flat Track 1/8 mile, which produced some fantastic on-track battles.
The Burris Racing Clones hit the track first, with the juniors and seniors combined. Young Ricky Par took it to his older competitors after Forest Coley led most of the race, but seemed to fade as he battled with Jayden Baker, and came away with the overall win. Coley and Baker followed him across the line. The seniors followed that trio, with Summer Tenpas leading SCDK first timer Richard Cervi.
Burris Racing/TS Concrete Coatings/YOA Racing Engines KT100 was up next, with Art Laski, Jr. and Luis Calderon starting on the front row with a heat race win for each. Those two were tied for second in the points championship before the main, with no chance of catching new champion Gary Long, but second was certainly up for grabs. Laski took the lead from pole and opened up a gap over Calderon before the first yellow tightened things back up. He stretched it back out at the green, but Nick Argo, who had struggled with mechanical issues in the heats, made his way to the front from the last row and put a move on Calderon to take the second position. Laski looked set to cruise home when a late-race caution with three laps to go bunched the field back up. Argo saw the dangling carrot and got to Laski’s bumper on the last lap, but he couldn’t make it all the way. Laski took the win, followed by Argo, and Calderon. Ted Marshall finished where he started in fourth, and last race’s runner-up, Scott Bassett, rounded out the top five.
UAS Open was combined with the Fast Cash Racing Products/San Diego Small Engine Small Bore Open for the final race of the night. In a strange turn of events, the top three in points all did not make the event, handing the title to the leader after last month’s race, Tyler Rose Bohle. Tyler’s dad, Scott Bohle, did show with her equipment and decided to handle the driving duties himself. Bohle took the heat races to start on the pole. On the outside was new-to-SCDK, but long-time racer Tony Gomez coming out to the flat track with his sharp KA100 powered kart. Bohle took the lead at the start and looked to be taking the safe line, but Gomez would not let him get away, working high and low to find an opening. Finally, Gomez made the move to get by Bohle took the win. Bohle appeared to have some mechanical gremlins was a last lap DNF, handing second to James Randolph on his 80cc powered shifter kart.
In Small Bore Open, newly-crowned champ Duane Lawson didn’t make the starting bell, leaving Zate Legend for the default win.

Saturday night, October 19th. So Cal Dirt Karters returned home to the Perris Flat Track after a two race stint at Wheel2Wheel Raceway. The weather was perfect and temperatures were cooler that when SCDK last raced here at PFT, but championship battles were heating up coming into this event as the season draws to a close.
To begin the night, SCDK Board Member, Don Morbitzer, announced in the driver’s meeting that So Cal Dirt Karters will be back at Perris Flat for 2025, including a new Winter Series with dates to be announced soon to kick off the year. Stay tuned for details on that as well as the full 2025 So Cal Series Schedule to be out soon.
The heats all ran under the lights, which kept the track in perfect condition when the main events lined up. First on the grid was the Sr. Clone and Jr. Clone karts sharing the dirt. While the groups are separated by age, they weren’t separated by speed, as Junior Dylan Young took the lead over Senior racer Cash Culp. Young led most of the race right up until the end when he got high in turn 1 and Culp was able to make the pass for the overall, extending his win streak. Young hung on to win the Junior class over Forest Coley in second, and Summer Tenpas nabbed second in the Senior karts behind Culp.
In the Fast Cash Racing Products/San Diego Small Engine Small Bore open class, Duane Lawson returned to victory lane over Adam Jones after missing the last event at Wheel2Wheel. Michelle Munoz also returned to action at Perris Flat Track after taking a tumble in Race 4 at the speedway, but her night ended with a DNF.
French Valley Transportation Outlaw 250 Winged Kart 4 stroke class saw Cash Culp double up for the night, with a win over Jason Bishop, who made his first return since Race 1. Forest Coley and Dylan Young, also doing double duty like Culp, had their races cut short with DNFs.
The night’s biggest class, Burris Racing/TS Concrete Coatings/ YOA Racing Engines KT100, had points leader Gary “GTP” Long sweep his heats to start from pole position. Long got the jump at the start and was never headed, but the action was fierce behind him. From Long’s view it was uneventful, but Scott Bassett tailed him for most of the race and looked as though he had enough to spoil it for several laps until he lost some ground right at the end but maintained second at the end. Mike Wright had his best finish of the season and captured his first podium since moving into the KT100 category. Sam Gentry was the race’s Hard Charger, moving up from 11th starting spot to finish fourth. Long’s only challengers for the championship, Art Laski, Jr. and Luis Calderon, both did not finish, as Laski broke a drive belt and Calderon was pulled off track under yellow with a broken rear bumper. That essentially assured Long the Championship crown winner with one race remaining on the calendar.
As if Long’s night couldn’t get better, he managed to double up on the night with a win in UAS Open class with a brand new four cycle he debuted. Tyler Rose Bohle looked to be in control with Long making it interesting behind her, but a clutch failure on her dual KT100 mount caused her to drop to 5th at the finish. Sam Gentry was second across the stripe, and Scott Rogers took the last step on the podium.

Karting is one of the most affordable forms of motorsport, and dirt kart racing is the most affordable form of karting! The reason is that older equipment can be just as competitive in speedway dirt karting as newer equipment, and with an abundance of used, but capable, equipment available on the secondary market, initial start up costs are very low. Tire wear is also much lower than pavement racing, so your per race budget can remain low. Contact So Cal Dirt Karters today to find out how you can get on the track racing now!
