The So Cal Dirt Karters Club (SCDK) is a non-profit club that promotes kart racing as a safe, fun, and competitive motorsport in the Southern California area. Our club strives to promote top quality, professionally managed events. Classes are run under uniform rules that are impartially enforced, providing fair competition and safety for all those involved. We adhere to high standards in our efforts to provide the most competitive racing program possible for everyone. We believe in a family oriented and friendly environment to make our events enjoyable for all who participate.
Racers! SoCal Dirt Karters has implemented an Arrive and Drive and Junior Incentive Program to get young racers more involved with SCDK. We want to encourage youth racers and their parents to join our club to help secure the future of our organization, and grow racing in Southern California in general by letting them experience the thrill of dirt karting!
Bring your own kart, or use one of ours, either way, come out and let's go racing!
Below are the details of this program:
Kid and Junior Arrive & Drive
1. Must not have previously driven a dirt kart
2. Must purchase pit pass (insurance band) for all attending family and friends ($20/ea.)
3. Must provide your own helmet, long sleeve heavy shirt or jacket, closed toe shoes, long pants or driver suit. SCDK may provide neck braces if available.
4. Long hair must not be exposed when on track. Recommended to tuck into driver’s suit/ jacket.
5. Must arrive with parent or legal guardian no later than 3:00 for registration and attend the 3:30 orientation.
6. Transponders may be rented for electronic scoring, but not required.

8. Depending on our race night schedule, drivers will typically be given one 5 lap practice session, two 10 lap heat race/pre-main, and a 15 lap main event.
9. If we have more arrive and drive participants than we do available karts, SCDK may split the field up by ability/age.

Perris Raceway General Facility Rules
It was all about the youth on Saturday, August 16th, when SoCal Dirt Karters held their 6th round of the SoCal Championship Series at the Perris Raceway Flat Track. Five-year-old Zeppelin McGill came back for his second run at the Flat Track, this time doing double duty. Zeppelin took laps in his Mini-Dwarf, and also in one of SCDK Arrive and Drive kid karts, and is looking ready for some more competitors. Interest in the class appears strong, so he won’t have to wait long.
Group 2 was an Arrive and Drive youth movement, with teens, Robbie Randolph, Gavin Stadler, and Jensen Duncan returning to SCDK karts for another run at each other. In the main, Duncan took the win, with Randolph second, and Stadler bringing it home third.
Zeppelin’s dad, Wesley McGill, wasn’t going to let the Mighty Zep have all the fun this night, and took a ride in Arrive and Drive Group 2, along with Tom Weselowski and Aiden Gout. McGill took the W, over Gout, with Weselowski trailing for third.
Small Bore Open saw the return of last year’s champ Duane Lawson to the flat track after a few races off. He picked right up with his winning ways and took the win. Rodney Argo settled for second for the second race in a row, and last month’s winner, Adam Jones rounded out the top three.
For the second race in a row, Tony Gomez relinquished his winning Open ride to another driver. This month, Tanner Smith was the designated shoe and the young lady showed why she was a worthy candidate. Finishing second in both heats was only good enough for third starting position, as Sam Gentry and Jim Randolph both had had 1-3 finishes, breaking the three-way tie. In the end, though, Smith was able to take the win over Randolph. Gentry, and Scott Rogers in fourth for her first win in her maiden trip to the Perris Flat Track.
The YOA/Burris Racing KT100s had an action-packed night. Thirteen racers lined up for the main after two groups of heat races put current points leader Jeremy Drew on the pole with two heat wins. Tony Gomez got into the lead from fourth by the end of lap one, until Richie Renken took the lead on lap 7. Gomez spun on lap 11 as Drew went to second from fourth and Gary Long dropped to third. Renken was never headed and took his first win of the series and second on the year with his earlier Winter Series win. Drew came in second, maintaining his points lead, and Long was on the last step of the podium.
Wrapping up the night was the SoCal Mowers putting on another good show with their crazy machines. Luke Pappas took the win, just ahead of Gary Papps and Brandon Hubbard. Mowers will be back with SCDK at the next race on September 20th, so don’t miss it!

Attention Racers!
After careful consideration and listening to the feedback from our members, the SCDK Board has agreed to eliminate the spark plug rule in KT100. Some competitors have expressed concern with the heat range of the specified plug. The plug specified may not be the ideal plug, so you may want to consider other alternatives going forward. The NGK BR10EG has been recommended from several sources. The SCDK Rule Book has been updated accordingly. See the Rules and Classes page for the updated rule book.
So Cal Dirt Karters is implementing a pre-race safety tech on all karts, starting this Saturday, 3/29. Once you get unloaded, roll your kart(s), along with safety equipment down through the grid area and our resident safety monitor, Gary Long will check for the basics.
Karts that don’t pass safety tech due to slight infractions will get a “fix it” ticket for our next race.
Egregious safety issues (no chain guards, lead weight held by zip-ties), will need to be an immediate fix.
You can refer to the checklist below for an idea of what will be looked over.
It’s important that everyone complies to safety measures in order to keep racers and fans safe so we can continue growing events at Perris Flat Track
So Cal Dirt Karters announces a full ten-race schedule starting in March and wrapping up in November at our home track, Perris Flat Track!
Karting is one of the most affordable forms of motorsport, and dirt kart racing is the most affordable form of karting!
SoCal Dirt Karters now has rentals available to those looking to try out dirt karting. Contact So Cal Dirt Karters Board Member Matt Drottz at Mattdrottz87@gmail.com to find out how you can get on the track racing now!
Per the insurance restrictions at the Perris Raceway, all MOTORIZED vehicle riders in the pits MUST wear a helmet. This includes quad, motorcycle and mini-bike riders. This is a strict requirement of Perris Flat Track. Please do not violate this mandate and jeopardize our future at this facility.
Also, all long-hair racers need to secure their hair per the rule book in section 4.6.5:
" If hair extends appreciably from beneath helmet, the competitor must wear a balaclava to retain hair from extending outside helmet. No hair is allowed to be visible when the driver is “race ready”.
No exceptions!
